Frequently Asked Questions About Traveling with ALBA ÀRD

Tipping

Tipping in Scotland is not obliged as it is in some countries. Service staff are paid a living wage, however if you would like to tip as a thank you for great service, this is always appreciated.

Payment

To confirm your itinerary, a 25% deposit is required. Full payment is required three months prior.

Flights

We are happy to advise on the best routing of your international flights, and recommend a trusted advisor to assist with the reservations.

Travel Insurance

We recommend all guests to book comprehensive travel insurance to cover themselves in the event of an accident, medical emergency or unavoidable change of plans. Insurance is not a service we are able to provide at this time.

Specialty Tours

We are very happy to curate your trip around a specific interest, and work alongside specialists within the fishing, golf, sports, whisky, shooting, ancestry and history fields to create the most memorable experience. Alternate itineraries for guests accompanying can be arranged at ease.

Events

With experience in event management and planning, we are delighted to assist with planning your unforgettable event in Scotland. From elopements to corporate functions, we can help you to find the perfect venue, caterer, accommodation and ensure even the smallest details are arranged.

Group Itineraries

Planning conferences, incentives, sport, family reunions and general sightseeing tours can all be taken care of. We offer programs on a bespoke basis and are happy to talk you through the best options for your specific group needs.

Pricing

We operate a little differently to the standard travel agent. We only recommend hotels, guides, restaurants and suppliers based on the best experiences available, our recommendations are not driven on commission. Due to this, we charge a 15% service charge on our custom itineraries. We are pleased to be transparent regarding our pricing structure and welcome any questions you may have.

What’s Included

Depending on your chosen package, your inclusions will differ. During our consultations we will outline inclusions and discuss any other requirements you would like taken care of.

Best time of year to visit

Scotland is beautiful year round! The seasons fall into three main categories.

June to August: High season. The most favourable weather and a busy time on the event calendar, notably Edinburgh Art Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Understandably crowds are high and rates are at a peak during this time.

April/May and September/October: Shoulder season. During spring and autumn, crowds are more manageable with the cooler weather and rates more favourable. Great time to attend the Highland Games, explore the countryside and immerse yourself in the local culture.

November to March: Low season. During the winter months, you will benefit from the low tourist rate, snowy landscapes, cosy open fireplaces and local festivities including Christmas Markets, Hogmanay, Burns Night and Up Helly Aa. However, you do need to consider the days are short, the weather crisp and many castles, distilleries and other attractions may close or limit operating hours.
